Until Fulltone's OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Drive), pedals just couldn't hold up to what a high quality amp could do. You lose all the touch sensitivity, and you can forget about those complex Harmonics. It's always been somewhat of a compromise using Overdrive pedals until now. The Fulltone OCD is designed to replicate the dynamics and harmonic structure of an overdriven tube amp, it uses a unique multi-stage distortion circuit, as opposed to the more common diodes-in-feedback-loop/diodes-to-ground configurations. The designers at Fulltone made the OCD for themselves, but they'll let you use it too. And you'll love it!

HP at 9 volts = very cool.) Drawback: - personally, none. - Very little compression (again, I like this but many may not. I have not tried this pedal with any other guitar besides my Strats. But this pedal gives me everything that I want.The best way that I can describe the sound of the OCD is Quality and Character. As a Clean Drive When you uses this pedal with less drive as a clean boost for your tube amp, you will notice that it delivers a very strong character from your guitar and is very sensitive to your dynamics while playing. As an Overdrive I have loved the Ibanez TS9 because it allows a strat to keep a vocal type of midrange while having singing trebles. When you add drive to the TS9, it retains those characteristics which is why it is the industry standard for strat guitarists who want to keep their stratty character and get the quality sound of a tube amp. The reason why the OCD is my preferred pedal over the TS9 is that it does not let the low end distort as early. The TS9 allows you lower notes to distort earlier... Have/had MXR distort, digi Metal, ibanez Tubescreamer, Line 6 POD and to me the sound from OCD is better for many rock apps. The sound benefit is as hard to describe (but easy to love) - like a tube amp versus solid state - when you hear it - you know you need it - but its hard to explain in words whats distinct. I had huge doubts when my local guitar guy suggested it but one listen (and now owning it) I go past all the other named boxes and use this bad boy for a great variety of classic/heavy rock sounds. I use gibson LP, ESP kh2, ibanez JS, 70's Fender Strat and mesa 525 express with this/other boxes FYI. |
